So, as you all heard, we are trying to save as many Tabs from Bassmasta as possible.
I think we should check, who does which Bands, so nobody does unnecessary work and no Band gets forgotten.
I am working on Iron Maiden right now. I will put up another post, when I know which band I will do afterwards.

I have been trying to download the entire website, done 650MB currently.

Is this feasible or am I wasting time and bandwidth?

Message me asap, want to save as much as I can.

I have got multiple tabs of my own, which I am happy to share with anyone, and I am currently downloading some good quality bass tabs from the old site too.

Found a program in download.com called Website Downloader for Windows.

I was hoping to grab the entire site and keep it on my hard drive.

I have about 500GB spare space but am limited to 60GB download per month an obviously have not got that long.

are you talking about this one: http://download.cnet.com/WinWSD-WebSite-Downloader/3000-2377_4-10562531.html?tag=mncol;7

In that case I could try downloading it, I have unlimited downloads.

I have set it going again, just wish I knew how big the site is.

Who saves what? Empty savings tabs

    Post  j janitor Sat May 07, 2011 7:30 pm

    Hi all,
Great that folks are saving tabs. A couple thoughts on this:

Dave Bennignton (http://my.bassmasta.net/u/7049/) has already downloaded the entire BassMasta site. So I am pretty sure he has all the tabs. Probably should contact him to make sure this is correct - it is what I have gleaned from postings on BassMasta and Bass Haven. It could mean that folks wouldn't have to duplicate a bunch of effort.

Also, I have it from an "Administrator" at BassMasta that he is putting all the tabs into a torrent ASAP. If that actually happens, all the tabs could be had with mimimal effort once the torrent file exists.

Lastly, I totally understand the selection of 4 and 5 star rated tabs, but would point out that a perfectly accurate tab, particularly if new, may not have been rated at all yet and have zero stars. Conversely, a shitty tab could have been given five stars by the tabber and/or a few friends, even though the wider community might think it was a one or two star tab.

It might be better to get all tabs, or wait for the torrent, then go weed through the jungle.

    IMPORTANT:
I have not found out how to write messages to everybody yet, so I'm writing this here

Two people have already downloaded all of the site and I have downloaded it partly and also about half of the Iron Maiden Tabs, also many other Tabs have already been downloaded.
So as you see, all the Tabs are saved, just post your Tab-requests in the Forum.
But, if possible still try to build up your small personal archive for the future, so the requests won't be to many.

I have also looked at the other follow-up-site bass-haven.webs.com and it seems a lot better to me than the crap we've got here, so I suggest that we should move to that site, so the community stays together.
What do you guys think about that?

What do you guys think about that?

The other site looks better (IMHO) and may offer the potential to ultimately be a more effective site, but the Forum is much better on this site. Cheers for Admin!

If Kyra is cool with Admin (and others?) helping to build the forums on Bass Haven, I think that would be a really good way to go.

For now, I'll play at both sites.

Oh, one caution though. Kyra (and Admin here) have both said they don't want tabs on their sites because of the issues BassMasta faced. Yet the Musik Talk forum already has a dozen or so tabs. I don't think Kyra would welcome the tabs from here onto her site's forum. Just a guess....

Again, I want to thank Admin for a great start on the forums here. Cheers.

well to write tab on the web you just type it with letters, numbers and I and -

    for example:
    G I------------------------------------------------------I
    D I------------------------------------------------------I
    A I------------------------------------------------------I
    E I-5-3-0-0-0--0-0-0-3-0-5-------------------------------I

Edit: that looked a lot better when I wrote it, you just have to write in a font, where everything is equally big.

Any Tabs are going to have to be done as create a thread with a person as the "Moderator" of that thread, each thread to a specific band, and the Mod has all the tabs for that band. People make requests, mod emails or messages them the tab. Its a bit slower and requires some member dedication, but it gets past the legal issues of posting them.

    Yes, of course.
There are also Programs out there to write tabs. These usually also include the possibility to set the length of the notes and other stuff like that and you can also listen to it after you're done.

Type out tabs in the Courier New font, it has equal spacing between characters
    Eg.
    In Arial
    ------------
    -----5-6-7-8
    these look equal while typing

    In Courier New
    ------------
    -----5-6-7-8
i typed the exact same thing

As You should be able to see, when in courier new the tab remains in shape
